Am I Too Old for These Funky Glasses?

Tangie Bell Showing Off her New Found Thrift Finds

Let's Talk About It!

The other day while
thrifting, I found two crazy weird looking  pair of glasses sitting on a little shelf all by themselves. They were small, half round, shaped , and they caught my eye. Honestly, I kinda laughed to myself and turned to my husband and said,  “Now who in the world wore these?”

Honey, you know I picked them up, tried them on, and honestly, I started smiling even more ( ok I laughed at myself ). Because I actually liked them.

They were funky, fun, and ridiculously looking in the best way. And for a second, I could hear that little voice in my head asking, “Girl, are you too old for this?” Inside joke ( and if you know : You know!

I laughed out loud right there in the store because I already knew my answer. Girl, bye , Naw you're not to old: Buy them glasses and shut the FUNK up!

POV: Sometimes I think the world expects women my age to play it safe with style as if we are dead and gone.
When you're in your 50's we should go for simple, neat , granny style boring, but that’s just not me. I like accessories that show character before I do. I like pieces that make people stare for a second and think, “She really wore that?” Or I like that for myself> Hey A Win Is A Win.

As a small online boutique owner at Funky Grunge Boutique, I spend a lot of time creating and curating  and that means I also want to look good while doing it. But not the “put together” kind of good that feels and looks like a copy cat of everyone else. I mean the kind that shows I’m still alive, still curious, still having fun with my own personal style.

So, when I saw those glasses, I thought, why not? I don’t care what’s trending or what someone thinks a woman over fifty should wear. I only have one life. If I like it, I’ll wear it. Hince Wear What The Funk You Want!

Here’s the truth though I know not everyone feels that free. Sometimes we second-guess ourselves and I still do at times. We think about what people will say, or what someone our age “should” do. I’ve done that too. But lately, I’ve started asking myself a different question: Does this make me feel happy? #nojoke

Because if it does, that’s all I need to know.

I wore those glasses out the other day, and people were looking. Some smiled. Some didn’t know what to make of it. I just kept walking. And you know what? It felt good. It felt like me.

I guess that’s what I’ve learned about style  it’s not really about clothes or accessories. It’s about energy. The energy of being yourself without apology. Some days, that means throwing on an old band tee and a ruffled skirt. Other days, it means rocking a pair of funky glasses just because they made you me when I found them.

So here I am, glasses and all, asking you: what do you think? Are these a yes or a no?

And before you answer, think about the last time you wore something that made you feel like yourself again. Maybe it wasn’t perfect, maybe it didn’t match. one single thing you already own But it made you smile, and that’s the part that matters most.

Girl listen,  here’s the funny part, I didn’t stop at one pair.

You know how it goes when you’re thrifting  one thing leads to another, and suddenly you’ve got a whole little collection in your basket.

Now I’m sitting here trying to decide which pair I like better.
Look Number 1 feels bold and dramatic the kind of glasses that say “I came to be seen.” #thatsme
Look Number 2 is softer but still playful, like something you wear when you don’t take life too seriously. #thatsmeTOO

Both of them make me smile for different reasons, which makes it hard to choose. Side Note: I got both

So let’s make it fun I’m asking you.
If you had to pick, which look would you rock? Number 1 or Number 2?

Scroll through the pictures below, take your time, sip your coffee, and tell me what you think in the comments or on Facebook. You can find me on Wear What the Funk You want facebook Or Funky Grunge Boutique Facebook.
You can’t hurt my feelings either way. I just love hearing other people’s take on what they’d wear (or wouldn’t). But, be nice I'm not your child. :) seriously

Because really, that’s what it’s all about having fun, experimenting, and remembering that style is meant to be lived, not over-thought.

So, with that being said: Wear What The FUNK You Want And That's On Every FUNKY thangs!
