                                                        Accessories That Don't Make Sense!

                                                                         Hey,Friends!

My favorite thing to talk about when it comes to my style is accessories—but not in the way you may think. As a hairstylist, my wardrobe is pretty basic. I’m talking about the same five black outfits on repeat. Wearing black outfits daily keep sprinkles of hair and colored dye from showing up on my clothes.

That’s where accessories come into play for me.

Earrings, funky necklaces, and crazy shoes turn my plain outfits into a real funky vibe. No matter how wild my workday gets, my accessories keep my style looking fresh. And for me, that is a plus since I am helping make other women feel their best with a new hairstyle.

It’s not just about adding a necklace or throwing on a pair of earrings—it’s about me feeling good about expressing myself and, sometimes, being just a little bit extra (okay, maybe a lot extra).

I have to admit I wanted to be extra, just like the women's hair I did every day. I can’t tell you the countless stories I've heard from the women who sat in my chair and said, "Do whatever, make me look different.

I knew what they wanted, and it was more than just having a new hairstyle or color. They wanted what I wanted to look good and stylish, even if it meant re-wearing the same outfit. Contrary to what social media shows us, your everyday woman is a wife; working in or out of the house and dressing up every day is not an option all the time.

I could relate because after working all week, by the time the weekend came around, I found myself almost re-wearing that same boring style. I was just slipping on my work clothes to run errands. Somehow, unknowingly, my style began to run into itself. Sunday outfit looked like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and so forth.

So, for me, accessories have always been my way of turning a “meh” outfit into something that feels totally me. But I would never wear them to work because it was just work. But as I've gotten older, I've decided to wear all my jewelry.

POV: Even if you wear the same outfit daily, invest in your accessories to make everything look fresh and new. It’s not about other people; it’s about you looking and feeling good about yourself.

Once I started accessorizing my style It was like magic! Suddenly, my “blah” work uniform looked like an intentional (I put together) outfit, and I felt amazing. That moment sparked my obsession with accessories, and I’ve never looked back.

Let’s be real, clothes are important, but accessories? Accessories are where the style happens. This is my personal opinion; please take it with a grain of salt.

Some days, I wear small, unique earrings for a coffee date, and the next, I wear something big and odd-looking. Honestly, it’s the same outfit but with a completely different vibe

The Rewear-Rework-Redo Method

Here’s my go-to strategy for accessorizing: Rewear, Rework, Redo. It’s my little secret for making the most of what I already have while keeping my style fresh.

If I’m working with a simple black dress which is a classic wardrobe staple. The first time, I might pair it with chunky gold jewelry and platform heels for a dinner out. The next time, I’ll switch it up with colorful beaded necklaces, a stack of mismatched bangles, and a pair of Converse. Suddenly, that black jumpsuit is doing double duty and then some.

A Day of Secondhand Treasure Hunting

My obsession with accessorizing has taken me to some of the best secondhand stores around my city. There’s something nostalgic about the hunt and finding that one unique bracelet or a pair of shoes that makes me feel like I hit the jackpot.

This week, I decided to make a day of it. I grabbed a coffee with my hubby (Rico), slipped on yesterday’s outfit, and headed to my favorite local thrift shops.

My first stop was the accessory section, where I found a pink scarf (perfect for tying onto a handbag, or my favorite thing to do is tie it to style my short pink pixie cut), a pair of funky earrings, and a cartoon-fun umbrella.

These treasures aren’t just accessories; they’re conversation starters, little pieces of art that turn a basic outfit into something unforgettable. And I stand firm on saying that. I never thought I would share these next few ideas but,

Accessories have become a game changer for me, and here is a list

of a few of my favorite go-to items: I thrift and buy from the mall.

Layering Necklaces: Don’t be afraid to mix metals, textures, and lengths. A simple tank top transforms by adding layers of chains, pendants, and chokers. That’s my favorite thing to do.

Funky Tights: My favorite thing to do is add a pair of patterned or colorful tights and boom, it’s a whole new look. But if you try this don’t forget to add weird socks as well, might as well keep it funky!

Scarves Are Your Best Friend: Tie one around your neck, in your hair, or even on the handle of your handbag. It’s the easiest way to add a pop of color or texture.Since my hair is short and pink, I love scarves. They are my go-to every time I shop.

Bold Shoes: Remember don’t underestimate the power of a statement shoe. Whether flat or big red heels, shoes can completely transform your vibe. Yall it’s a statement piece by itself.

Earring Experiments: Who says they have to match? Try mixing and matching studs or wearing one bold earring on one side and a simple stud on the other.

                                                         Your Style, Your Rules

The best thing about accessorizing is that there are no rules, at least not in my world. Want to pair polka dots with stripes? Go for it. If you feel like wearing every ring in your jewelry box at once? Why not? Accessories give you the freedom to experiment and play, and honestly, that’s where the fun begins.

At 53, I’ve realized that accessorizing is about more than just looking good. It’s about me feeling good, expressing myself, and showing the world that style isn’t about trends, it’s about being true to myself.

POV: So, the next time you feel stuck with your style, grab your favorite accessories and let them do the talking. But, nonetheless Wear What The FUNK you want. And That’s On Every Funky Thang!

Tell me—what’s the one accessory you can’t live without? Or better yet, what’s the weirdest, most wonderful piece in your collection? Let’s keep the conversation going!
