Fashion Rule Breaker: Am I Too Old for Platforms?

Fashion versus style will always be funny to me. Last week, I read an article that said, “If you’re over 50, it’s time to take off the platform shoes.” I laughed out loud. #iamnotKidding

But,aAfter a little digging, I found out it was written by someone in her twenties. Umm Ma’am let me gather my thoughts. :)

Now I’m sitting here thinking, does she really believe she’s going to stay twenty forever? I’m going to chalk that one up to youth and let it be. But, I do have something to say now that I am no longer in my 20’s and I may have felt that way in my younger days. #beinghonest

As I get older, I don’t believe in aging out of fashion trends or personal style. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not personally trying to wear Daisy Duke shorts pulled up the crack of my behind.

But if another woman wants to? Go right ahead , because I am team  Wear What The FUNK You Want.

And,  I’m not in the business of telling grown women what they should or shouldn’t wear. Fashion rules made by strangers are just opinions dressed up loud. The gag is neither their opinion nor my opinion matters. I just find it fascinating as an open conversation

What really surprises me is how many women think they have to give up high heels or platforms after a certain age. Say who, say,  what?

Woman holding Pink Platform Shoes for Wear What The Funk You Want Blog Post:

Just because I’m over 50 doesn't mean I need to lace up some orthopedic granny shoes unless my feet are begging for mercy. Like, if I have bunions and pain that’s one thing, but comfort is a choice, not a fashion rule. UGHHHHHH!

Honestly, I’m old but I’ve never seen a shoe box stamped with “For Young Feet Only.” And if I ever do, I might go ahead and sue on the grounds of pure foolishness.

Here's my truth: I love a chunky platform. I’m not big on skinny heels, but give me a thick sole with a little attitude and I’m at the party girl. ( Ok, I am lying, I'll be at the nearest brunch spot.)

That is why  when I found a pair of pink platforms at a thrift store here in Dallas with locks, keys, I didn’t hesitate to charge my master card. And I will be rocking them as soon as I can move again.

So no, I am not too old for pink platforms. If anything, I’m finally old enough to know exactly why I want to wear them. That’s the real freedom that comes with age because you stop asking for permission.

So, here's to breaking fashion rules, and refusing to shrink for anybody’s style handbook.
