Seeking Confidence Not Style: A Mid-50s Reflection

Now that I’m in my mid-50s, I find myself seeking confidence, not style. Ok wait, hear me out.

It’s so easy to get caught  up in the whirlwind of what’s “in,” what’s “out,” and what we’re supposed to wear just to show up at work or run errands. #realtalk

But the older I become and the more I actually stop and look at myself in the mirror, the more I see the real changes that are happening. And instead of fighting them, I’m choosing to embrace them. Honestly, it’s not easy writing this post. :(

Yes, my body is shifting, I can clearly see my face is looking different. Not to mention my shape isn’t what it used to be. And yes, I work out and try to take care of myself. But I’m no longer waiting to lose weight or “fix” something before I decide to dress up. This post isn’t about my weight or how I look; it’s simply the best analogy for what I’m learning at this age:

I can wait for some sudden change to happen in my body…
or
I can start loving where I am and dress from a place of confidence not from a place of trying to impress.

At this point in my life, I’m seeking clothes that feel good on me, hug me the right way, and make me fly. Because I truly believe when a woman feels good, she looks good. That holds true whether she’s wearing something designer or a $5 thrift store find. The outfit is just the outfit and it’s all in how you wear it. And that’s on every Funky thang.

It’s never been about the style. #sharethis
It’s always been about how the woman feels in her own personal style and  the confidence she carries, not the clothes on her back.

And that’s where I am today: learning to choose confidence first, letting everything else follow.
