Getting Over The Whole Social Media Style Frenzy!
Let’s face it, fall is creeping in, and my social feed has officially turned into Sweater Weather City. It’s a mix of layered socks, chunky boots and endless carousels of influencers telling us what’s hot (and what’s not). #mypov
Honestly? It’s enough to make my insides scream. I feel like running straight to the nearest hiding spot with zero clothing racks in sight. I can barely keep up with the switch of daily changes.
Some days, I don’t want to think about “trends” or “must-haves. #ugh
Yeah, I said, I want to post the mundane , the things that make us all different, even our style. Individual style has become an aesthetic that will warp one’s brain if not careful.
When in reality most people in your real community shop at real stores like H&M, Zara, American Eagle, She-In,Temu, JCPenney with an occasional peep inside Dillard’s.
Not to mention I am an avid thrifter and those are the main brands I am seeing in the thrift stores.
The moral of the story is most people just wear what they like and being an aesthetic is so out the window. The older I become in my own style, I can't relate to social media style on a daily basis.
Most of the items shown on instagram alone are not even sold in an actual store. That is why social media has turned into this big ole’ link me, show me , tell me over consumed land of no ending style.
I am just a nobody but every time I log on to any of my socials, someone’s asking where my shoes are from or if I can drop a link to my scarf, when it’s just a chill moment of sitting outside, not a whole runway show! And the internet wants all that hard work for FREE.
HA HA! Now that I’m over my unserious self let’s talk about why I’m done with this whole social media-style marathon. What I’m about to say may or may not shock you, so buckle up.
I Simply Can’t And Do Not Want To Keep Up With Fast Fashion Trends. There, I said it, and I feel so much better about it.
I lean more toward style, and I am okay with wearing what I like. Sometimes, I dress up, and sometimes, I just want to put my left leg and my right leg in a pair of pants without trying to remember or screenshot a label.
The constant strolling on social media makes me want to buy every single thing I see even if it’s not my style.
Another reason I stay away from influencer stuff is I used to share things publicly until I got hit with ( That outfit, bag, and shoes are ugly. Besides, what’s in today will be out in the next 30 minutes, as long as a person strolls the internet. Fashion VS Style will always be up for debate if I show how I style red socks with a green dress. The unwanted judgement just goes berzerk.
Some will love it and some will scream that it's not in style. Do not get me wrong, the internet is a great place to share and communicate with a plethora of new people.
Not to mention I use social media to share and sell my Funky Grunge Boutique items. But, I had to learn who I am and what I want to do when it comes to social media.
Trust me it has been a learning curve as I navigate this new technology in my 50’s. Everyday that I post I will have my finger on the block button for the one troll who wants to leave negative comments.
I never allowed the net to call me names because I turned the negative commenters into a mini brand. I owned up to being called the U-G-L-Y word. At first, those comments stung, but then I thought, you know what?
I’ll just lean into it! So, I started the Ugly Denim Bag Collection, a whole line of intentionally dingy, ripped, and grungy bags made from old ratty jeans. Each bag is one-of-one, with a little character, some “wear and tear,” and a lot of purposefully over-the-top style. And my slogan was simple : Wear What The FUNK You Want, And That’s On Every Funky Thang!
And my mission was simple.
If you love the odd, the different, and the completely unique, these bags are for you. I turned a negative into a collection that’s proudly funky, a little messy, and definitely not your average bag. So, if you’re down to make a statement on purpose, watch for these one-of-a-kind creations!
That’s It, And That’s All. I Never Had To Fit In Once I Found My Style And Purpose. #thinkaboutit
Once A Woman Finds Her Own Style No Picture On Social Media Will Change Her Mind On What She Really Likes On Her Body. Honestly, at this point in my life I use social media for entertainment and enjoyment. That is why you never see me often. :)
Last But Not Least, Here Is My Point Of View On How to Rock Your Own Style (and Ignore the Noise)
Rewear. Repeat. Re-Do It Again. Yes, you can wear the same thing twice, thrice, and more! Make that favorite outfit yours without apology. Just Be Unapologetic!
Accessorize Your Way. Try a pair of funky earrings, a chunky belt, or a vintage scarf. It’s weird how a new accessory changes your whole style vibe!
Say ‘No’ to Perfect Posing. Post your potato chip pictures, coffee spills, and messy off-grid style! Keep it real, and post what you want to share. Ask people to comment on what’s in your caption if you want others to judge you. .
You deserve space on this internet and you deserve to post whatever you like even if no one likes it. Post it anyways and watch how you will grow. That’s my nugget for today’s blog post. At the end of the day….
Without Cursing, Wear Whatever the FUNK You Want! Enough said.
And On That Note, I Am Off To See What’s On The Internet :)
